As I welcome the month of May it reminds me of so many memories. One of which being when i graduated from college. I am a first generation college student and i was the first of my siblings to graduate (no i am not the oldest but one of the youngest of 8 siblings). This has been a HUGE milestone in my life. I had to work through a lot of personal hurdles to complete my degree and i am happy to say that i did it all on my own! I was a full time student...worked 2 jobs (which was about 40+ hours a week) plus maintaining all the other responsibilities i had in my life. I graduated with a double degree (in biology and exercise science pre-med) and two minors (health science and business administration). Yes it took me more than four years to get my education but it has by far been the best years i have had.
I would like to take you on a walk through what i was able to do...accomplish...and experience during my college career.
I was lucky to join a SISTERHOOD (not just a sorority). My sorority sisters are some of the most amazing people i have met while i was in college. Yes i treat them as if they are my sisters and i know that no matter what they are always there for me. to encourage me...to help me...and to tell me the truth when no one else will...and to pick me up when i am down. I love them and i am so grateful for all the memories i was able to create with them.
The other thing i grateful for are the amazing friends i was able to meet while i was in college. these group of people will always be my #1 group of friends. We know how to travel to different places and how to have an amazing time! We are the perfect match for each other and no matter where we go...we are always the life of any party!
I created... organized...and chartered an organization on our campus (of course with the help of other people)!! I brought the Women's Club Basketball team to our school. I put in TONS of man hours (when i prob should have been studying...LoL) and got us into tournaments...got us funding... found teams for us to play...i did everything and it was also a HUGE part of my college career.
I got to compete in step shows for my sorority (if you do not know what that is...it is kinda like dancing..but it tells a story...you can find TONS of videos on YouTube! i.e. our video here: http://youtu.be/5_tXG0hMljA http://youtu.be/I3c_2DigKik)
I got to ride a mechanical bull....
and i got to get a tattoo....
OK so it was not a REAL tattoo...but hey at least i got something cute to wear around for out trip! LoL
I got to play intramural sports (and woop up on all the smaller less athletic girls on campus!)
I got to dress up for Halloween...
and i got to go on trips with my gals on the weekends...
But most importantly i was able to LIVE.
I was able to grown into the woman you see today.
I was able to experience live outside of Texas and away from my family and fiends from home
I was able to meet some amazing people and go to a lot of different places
No i did not get straight A's in college, but i did do good in my classes, i earned my degree, and most importantly i can say that i enjoyed my time while i was in college and i would not change anything that happened.
So Congrats to all the 2012 graduates! I hope you were able to have as much fun as i did when i was in college. The real wold is def not as fun as being in college...but i am happy to be moving on the next chapter of my life.
