What does February mean to you?
To me it is a HUGE marker if my heritage and culture.
February is Black History Month.
A few years ago, i made it a goal to learn one new Black History fact each day of February. And to help my fellow peers along so they could also learn some important history, each day i post that new fact as my facebook status. I have gotten AMAZING response from all of my peers in the social world as they are learning new and interesting things about African American culture.
From inventors, pioneers, actors, singers, or young professionals African Americans have done a lot to help build the country that we have today.
Another reason i did it was to also teach people that there were other people who had major influences on our culture other than the usual popular names that you usually hear (like Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, President Obama...)
The last post of this month i will post some of my Black History facts that i learned and shared during this 2012 Black History Month.
I have a friend that works at the local television station and she also decided to pay homage to Black History month as well this year. She made a series of stories to educate the people of our community of influential African American people right here in our own community. She also talked on African American culture that can be seen today but some people do not really understand. Here is the story my friend is doing (and YES i was lucky enough to be apart of it :-) ) It may help to let some people know a little more about the African American Culture and some of the things that we do.

Part 2:
You can read more about the story here:

Black History is American history. And i hope that i am able to teach my nieces, nephews, and someday my children more about the African American heritage and what we have done to contribute to improving society.

So happy to be your newest linky follower via Create with Joy. This issuch an important post, and I think there's a larger message here. We should be talking about the wonderful contributions of African Americans all the time - not only during a designated month. Black History Month is important, but it's not the only 28 days of the year to celebrate the contributions of African Americans. You share that sentiment as you mention the excitement of continuing to share this which is wonderful and leaves me seeing beautiful. We think you'd enjoy See Beautiful too!
Happy seeing beautiful!
