As the summer is slowly coming to end i thought i would make a post that might be helpful to those new high school graduates out there! Some of the new High School graduates may be preparing to enter college in a matter of weeks...Entering college is a very exciting and new experience!
You will experience and learn so many things! It is the time to explore and have fun...BUT do not forget why you are at college...to LEARN!

When it comes to college it is wise to go into your freshman year with a few tips that may help you save a little bit of money!

For example...cherish your student ID...it not only allows you to check out books at the library or get into your recreational facility. At most schools you need it to swipe yourself in for meals!
Also...look into and join campus organizations you like! It is so important to get out and have fun and it is also a great way to meet new people! But most importantly shop around for your college text books! Doing so can save you HUNDREDS of dollars each semester.  Yes you have to get NEW text book for the new classes you take each semester!  When and if you can save money you should!

Today i will talk to you about how to save money on getting the text books you may need for your new college classes. One site that i have personally used and that i greatly enjoy is www.campusbookrentals.com . If you are not careful you can end up paying TWICE as much for all of your text books!  My first semester of college i tried to make things easy for me and use the on campus book store...little did i know that was going to cost me over $600 for 5 books! Yea my heart sank when i got to the register and saw the amount of these few books on the cash register.

www.campusbookrentals.com can help you cut those expenses by allowing you the chance to possible find your needed text books for 40-90% the price you can get them at your local book store! Oh and did i mention that you get FREE SHIPPING!?!? (and yes you get shipping paid for to send the book(s) back to them! another way to save money!)  Getting books from www.campusbookrentals.com allows you the change to rent your text books at a cheaper cost than it would cost you to purchase them at your local book store or even on some other online stores.

What is renting your text book?
When you traditionally get a book for your college class you have the option to purchase the book. When your classes or over you can either keep the book or sale it back to different book stores and try to get some money back for the books you purchases (BUT BE WARNED! You may not always be able to sale the book back so you are out a lot of money PLUS you are stuck with this book you will probably never use again :-/  ) .  With renting text books you pay a fraction of the cost for your book(s).  The only difference is that you can not keep the book at the end of the semester! You simply send it back to the company you got your book from.  If you can rent your books i would HIGHLY suggest this!  It will save you tons of money, and you do not get stuck with a ton of books at the end of each semester.  No you do not get any money back for your book if you choose to rent it. BUT the plus side is this:  If you need a science book that originally cost $250 at the book stores....you can rent it possibly for 40-90% of the retail price! If you purchase your book you pay the full $250 and when you sale it back at the end of the semester you may get 20-30% back...so in the end you will usually save more money renting it!

Here is also a search option you can try out if you already know some of the books you will need for your classes!

Rent Texbooks
and save up to 90%.

Being a graduate of undergraduate classes i wish someone would have told me some of the things i just told you above!  It would have been very helpful and it would have saved me TONS of money over the many semesters i was taking classes.

There are TONS of other tips i can share with you guys...if you want me to do another post on College Tips just let me know and i will be more than happy to create a few more helpful post that may help the parents or new college students out!

Hope you guys are having a great week!

I spent so much money on books in college. The book rental idea was just surfacing when I graduated. Anybody who has the option to rent should do so. I promise you will not regret it!

I don't think I could have made it through college without renting my text books! There were a few classes that required a workbook that we actually had to write in but other than that renting was the only way to go! {Also, I took classes with a lot of my friends & my boyfriend who is now my husband... so we just shared books which was nice to be able to split the cost there too!}

Great post!

Yes, the purpose of college is to LEARN! I wish I realized that the first year of college ;) Thankfully I snapped into gear quickly. I think if I were to go back now, I would take advantage of every single learning opportunity out there. maybe older = wiser. :)
